Superstar Rajinikanth has extended a helping hand to veteran actor and filmmaker Mohan Sharma after news of his financial woes went viral on the internet. The octogenarian actor, who has been in the South Indian film industry for several decades, is presently staying in an old-age home in Gummidipoondi, Chennai. But his plight was brought into the spotlight recently after videos of his difficulties went viral on social media. Soon after news of his condition broke, Rajinikanth reportedly provided a donation of Rs. 1 lakh, offering much-needed respite to the veteran actor during a difficult phase of his life.
Mohan Sharma says Rajinikanth’s help has become a lifeline
Speaking with Puthiya Thalaimurai about the support, Mohan Sharma expressed his gratitude and revealed how difficult life has become in recent years. “I was informed that Rajinikanth came to know about my situation. A few days ago, I received financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh from him. I am managing my life with that help,” he said.The veteran actor also opened up about the hardships that forced him into the old-age home. “I once owned a house in Poes Garden, but I had to sell it. My family life did not work out, I have no money in hand, and there is no one to look after me if I fall sick,” he shared. While the old-age home provides free food and accommodation, he said he struggled to buy medicines before receiving Rajinikanth’s assistance.
Veteran actor recalls years of success before facing personal setbacks
Mohan Sharma is regarded as the first South Indian actor to receive acting training from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Over the years, he acted in more than 170 films across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, besides producing several films. He also served in important positions within the film industry, including the Film Chamber, and was part of the National Film Awards jury. Reflecting on his journey, Sharma said professional success could not protect him from personal struggles. He also appealed to members of the film fraternity to support him by acquiring the satellite rights of his acclaimed film Namma Gramam, saying it would help him meet his medical expenses.
