Shaheen Shah Afridi, representing Kandy Royals in the Lanka Premier League, has withdrawn from the league citing personal reasons. The pacer is understood to have informed the team management and tournament organiser of his decision.
Shaheen’s previous rift with franchise
He was reportedly understood to have filed a complaint against his LPL franchise with the Anti-Corruption Unit following an administrative error that sidelined him from the team’s game against Colombo Kaps.
Reportedly, Shaheen was supposed to be slotted in as an Impact Player in their second game. However, he was informed during the game that, due to an administrative error, his name had not been included in the official team sheet, which meant he could not be brought into the match.
Unhappy with the development, Shaheen escalated the matter, which was brought to the match referee’s attention. The pacer was ready to withdraw from the league following the incident but stayed on after officials reportedly apologised.
Shaheen’s appearance in franchise leagues
Shaheen played six games, in which he grabbed seven wickets at an average of 32. He was earlier left out of Pakistan’s two-match Test series against West Indies. He was also not part of Lahore Qalandars’ Global Super League squad.
His appearance in franchise leagues has been limited over the past couple of years. Besides the Pakistan Super League and the Big Bash League, he had not played in any league since early 2025, largely due to injuries, workload management and a busy schedule.
