NEW DELHI: The sports ministry on Wednesday suspended the recognition of the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), citing governance issues within the national body. The ministry also asked the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to set up an ad-hoc committee to oversee the administration of table tennis in the country until a proper governance structure is restored. One of the reasons cited for the suspension was TTFI’s failure to hold its elections within the required timeframe. The ministry said it took the decision after receiving an “unsatisfactory response” to a show-cause notice issued to the federation earlier. The ministry directed the IOA to consult the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) while taking steps to put an interim administrative system in place.“The IOA, in consultation with the international body (ITTF) will take appropriate action to create an internal regulatory mechanism, including the constitution of an ad-hoc committee, till such time that a duly constituted governance structure is restored in TTFI,” the ministry order stated.More to follow
