Amitabh Bachchan is back with the new season of Kaun Banega Crorepati, and the latest episode brought with it a warm moment for Shah Rukh Khan fans. While explaining a question about some of SRK’s most memorable roles, the veteran actor took a moment to praise his performance in Swades, calling it one of the actor’s finest.
Amitabh Bachchan praises SRK’s performance
The question was asked during the second episode of the 18th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati when the participant Bablu Kumar Pandit was asked to identify the actor who has played a NASA scientist, Indian Air Force pilot and coach of the Indian women’s hockey team in Hindi movies. In the correct answer, he named Shah Rukh Khan.
After confirming the answer, Amitabh spoke about Shah Rukh Khan’s performances across these films and specifically highlighted Swades. He said, “Swades, unki joh picture thi mera aisa manna hai ki joh abhinay unhone Swades mein kia na, woh ekdm uttam tha, aur kai baar milte hai jab main unse yahi bolta hoon (Regarding his film Swades, I truly believe that the acting he delivered in it was absolutely outstanding; whenever I meet him, I tell him exactly that).”
He then linked it to the three movie characters in the question, observing that Shah Rukh Khan played a NASA scientist in Swades, an Indian Air Force pilot in Veer-Zaara and a hockey coach in Chak De! India.
About Swades
Swades, released in 2004, was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starred Shah Rukh Khan as Mohan Bhargava, a scientist at NASA who returns to India after years working in the US. It is initially a homecoming trip, during which the he becomes engaged to the village and wants to contribute to its development.
Moreover, Gayatri Joshi made her debut in the film, and A.R. Rahman provided the soundtrack for the movie. It is considered as one of SRK ‘s most restrained performances in his career. In addition, the film received two National Film Awards, including Best Male Playback Singer for Udit Narayan and Best Cinematography.

Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 18 premiered on August 10 on Sony Entertainment Television and Sony LIV, with Amitabh Bachchan returning as its host. The opening episode brought together Aamir Khan, Preity Zinta and Sunny Deol as they appeared on the show to promote their upcoming film Batwara 1947, releasing on August 14 in theatres.
