The Afghanistan Cricket Board has officially confirmed a three-match T20 International series against India. This series will be held from September 13 to September 17, 2026, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
This will be the first time a foreign cricket board will host India on Indian soil. All matches of this historic series will take place in Delhi.
Schedule Finalized After BCCI Approval
After several days of discussions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given final approval for this series.
Following this, the Afghanistan Cricket Board sent an official letter to its commercial partners confirming the dates and venue of the series.
Nasib Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, stated that the tour of Afghanistan to India will take place from September 13 to September 17, 2026, and all dates and match venues have been agreed upon with the BCCI.
Schedule of India vs Afghanistan T20 Series
| Match | Date | Location |
|---|---|---|
| First T20 | September 13, 2026 | Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi |
| Second T20 | September 15, 2026 | Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi |
| Third T20 | September 17, 2026 | Arun Jaitley Stadium, New Delhi |
Public Announcement Still Pending
The Afghanistan Cricket Board has also clarified in its letter that the public announcement of the series is yet to be made by the relevant authorities.
However, the board has issued this letter as an official confirmation to all media rights holders and other partners to begin preparations.
This will allow for timely arrangements for broadcasting, promotions, and other logistics.
Possibility of Bangladesh Tour Almost Over
With the series against Afghanistan confirmed, the likelihood of India’s tour to Bangladesh has significantly diminished.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board wanted to host a series of six limited-overs matches with India in early September, proposing dates from September 1 to September 13.
However, with the series against Afghanistan starting on September 13, it is now considered nearly impossible for India to host Bangladesh.
It is reported that the Bangladesh Cricket Board had several rounds of discussions with the governments of India and Bangladesh, as well as the BCCI, but under the current circumstances, the chances of this series taking place are extremely low.
