There is already a crackdown on food safety measures that has managed to make its presence felt in the world of Gokuldham Society. The show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, known for weaving a story around some social issues while using comedy to entertain people, has introduced food safety and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspections as part of their story line. This is happening amid all the hype created by the crackdown on food safety violations by the Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, who has gained media coverage for cracking down on these violations.
FDA officials arrive at the Bhide residence
In the viral precap, two FDA officers arrive at the Bhide residence and convey to Madhavi that glass has been found in her lemon-chilli pickle. In addition to this, they tell her that her license has been revoked and if she wants an explanation of the matter, she will have to come to their office. This comes as a shock to the Bhide family, even more so because Madhavi and Bhide have been earning their living through the preparation of homemade pickles and papad.
The plot has unfolded at a time when there is an ongoing enforcement drive by the Maharashtra FDA with Tukaram Mundhe being its commissioner. Since assuming office in May 2026, Mundhe is said to have directed over 3,100 inspections in the state of Maharashtra. There have been 165 licences suspended and over 700 notices of improvement issued through inspections that include milk adulteration, food hygiene at hotels and restaurants, as well as quick commerce platforms.
Viewers spot the real-world parallel
The promo quickly caught the attention of social media users, many of whom immediately connected the fictional FDA raid with Tukaram’s recent actions. One user on Instagram summed up the connection with a simple, “Munde effect😂”, while another wrote, “Tukaram Sir is also here🫡😂🔥”.
The crossover jokes became even more elaborate, with one fan posting, “We got tukaram mundhe inspired character in TV serial before gta 6.”
Another viewer praised the show’s decision to address the subject, writing: “When a show as iconic as Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah uses its platform to back the FDA and upright leaders like Tukaram Mundhe, television truly serves its purpose. Uplifting, educational, and socially responsible as always!”
The internet, as expected, also brought in some pop culture humour. A X user joked, “After Spiderman Cameo, Sony creating a way for Tukaram Mundhe crossover in TMKOC.”
Food safety becomes a larger industry concern
Moreover, the plot of the show comes at a time when food safety concerns have begun to emerge even within the world of entertainment. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has asked the FDA to conduct surprise inspections of food catering services working at film sets in Mumbai.
