‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is adding more actors to its ensemble cast. Fardeen Khan and Mahesh Manjrekar have reportedly joined the upcoming comedy movie. The sequel is being developed with a fresh storyline and a new set of characters. The addition of these two actors further expands the project’s cast.

Amit Joshi to direct ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’

Amit Joshi has been appointed to direct ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’. He is known for directing ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’, which was released in 2024. The upcoming movie has been in development for several months. The makers are putting together a large ensemble for the sequel. ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ is expected to begin filming in November 2026. The movie will reportedly tell a completely new story instead of continuing the plot of the 2006 film.

Fardeen Khan’s comeback continues

Fardeen Khan has been expanding his filmography since returning to acting. His recent projects have included movies from different genres. According to Bollywood Hungama, the makers considered Fardeen Khan suitable for the project because of his previous work in comic capers. He reportedly accepted the opportunity after being approached for the sequel.The report says, “Fardeen is on a roll since his comeback. He has done films in various genres, but he’s quite loved in comic capers. Hence, the makers were keen to have the dashing and talented actor on board. He was more than happy with the offer and signed the film.”

Mahesh Manjrekar gets a quirky role

Mahesh Manjrekar has also been signed for a distinctive role. The actor has appeared in several genres and has previously showcased his comic side. The makers reportedly planned a quirky character for Mahesh Manjrekar in ‘Malamaal Weekly 2’. His comic abilities were among the reasons the team felt he would suit the part.The report added, “Meanwhile, Mahesh Manjrekar is a one-of-a-kind actor. Even he rocks the show in comedy films. There’s a quirky character in the film and the makers felt that he would be apt for the part. He was excited to have got an offer for the sequel of such a memorable film and readily come on board. The producers are confident that he’ll do full justice and that audiences would enjoy his performance.”The sequel already has several other names attached to it. Raveena Tandon and Parineeti Chopra have joined the cast. Shilpa Shirodkar has also signed the project, marking her return to Bollywood after 26 years. Elvish Yadav and Rajpal Yadav are also part of the ensemble.

What is ‘Malamaal Weekly’ about?

The original ‘Malamaal Weekly’ was released in 2006. Priyadarshan wrote and directed the comedy movie, which featured Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, Riteish Deshmukh and Arbaaz Khan in important roles. The story was set in the financially struggling village of Laholi. The villagers had limited sources of entertainment. The weekly lottery became a major attraction for them. Paresh Rawal played Lilaram, also known as Leela. Om Puri portrayed Balwant Singh Ballu and Fake Joseph Anthony Fernandes. Riteish Deshmukh appeared as Kanhaiya, while Arbaaz Khan played lottery inspector Jayesh Agarwal.The original movie was based on the 1998 film ‘Waking Ned’. The story later received a Telugu adaptation titled ‘Bhagyalakshmi Bumper Draw’ in 2006. A Kannada version, ‘Dakota Picture’, followed in 2012. Priyadarshan also adapted the premise into Malayalam with ‘Aamayum Muyalum’ in 2014.
