India finished Day 2 on 460/9 after a day that was badly affected by rain. They added 172 runs after starting the day at 288/2.
Devdutt Padikkal was the main star for India. He scored a brilliant 167 runs off 230 balls, with 15 fours and one six. He looked set for a double century before Prabath Jayasuriya dismissed him.
The first session was lost because of rain and a wet outfield. Play finally started in the second session, but Sri Lanka quickly made an impact.
Rishabh Pant was dismissed for 39 by Keshara Nuwantha, who took his first international wicket. KL Rahul, who returned after retiring hurt on Day 1, also fell to Nuwantha for a patient 82 off 175 balls.
India Reach 460/9 After Rain-Affected Day 2
Padikkal continued to score quickly and reached 150. But at 357, Jayasuriya finally removed him. India went to tea at 364/5.
After tea, Dhruv Jurel and Manav Suthar added 55 runs for the eighth wicket. Jurel scored a useful 51 off 66 balls, helping India cross 400.
Sri Lanka then picked up quick wickets. Jayasuriya dismissed Jurel, while Asitha Fernando removed Mohammed Siraj for 11. Jayasuriya then got Suthar for 24, leaving India at 447/9.
Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna survived the final few overs. Kuldeep remained unbeaten on 12, while Prasidh was on 1 at stumps.
India ended the day at 460/9 in 116 overs. Jayasuriya was Sri Lanka’s best bowler with 4/109, while debutant Nuwantha took 3/175.
India still have one wicket left and will look to add more runs on Day 3 before Sri Lanka begin their first innings.
