Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster epic ‘The Odyssey’ is now gearing up to change course and take over digital platforms, following a hugely successful theatrical run at the global box office.After crossing the billion-dollar mark, and going on to become the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, ‘The Odyssey’ is now set to debut on home entertainment platforms in November. According to Variety, the film will be available to rent and purchase digitally from November 17, 2026.As per the report, the release of the film in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray will also be on the same day. The release date comes exactly four months after the film opened in cinemas on July 17.
‘The Odyssey’ follows ‘Oppenheimer ‘ release strategy
‘The Odyssey’ will have its digital debut, after a four-month gap, said to be a notably longer window. A similar strategy was followed by ‘Oppenheimer’, which also enjoyed a 123-day run in cinemas before becoming available online and on other premium formats in November 2023. ‘The Odyssey’ will likewise have a similar 123-day theatrical window when it arrives on digital and 4K Ultra HD on November 17.
‘The Odyssey’ becomes highest-earning R-rated film
The announcement comes just days after ‘The Odyssey’ extended its remarkable box-office record and grossed approximately USD 1.352 billion worldwide. With this, the film not only surpassed the record held by the Marvel superhero film ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, but also became the highest-grossing R-rated film in history. It is also only the third R-rated movie to cross the USD 1 billion mark worldwide, following ‘Joker’ and ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’.The film’s performance has also made it the highest-grossing movie of Nolan’s career, surpassing ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, which earned approximately USD 1.08 billion worldwide.It has also become the highest-grossing IMAX release ever, with the format accounting for a significant portion of its global earnings.

The Odyssey opened in theatres on July 17 and collected USD 123 million domestically in its opening weekend. The film has since accumulated approximately USD 516 million in North America and USD 835 million internationally, as reported by Variety.

Matt Damon stars as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca, who embarks on a perilous journey home following the Trojan War.
