'Ginny Weds Sunny 2' star Avinash Tiwary recalls 3.5-hour arranged date for marriage: 'Don’t think this system really works'
Avinash Tiwary, after O’Romeo, appears in ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’ opposite Medha Shankr, a romantic‑comedy sequel exploring arranged‑marriage chaos and mismatched families. In a chat with News18, he reflects on his own arranged‑marriage experiences, meetings, family pressure, and humorously sets a 2026‑end deadline to get married.

Following ‘O’Romeo’, Avinash Tiwary is set to appear in ‘Ginny Weds Sunny 2’ alongside Medha Shankr. The film centres on a spirited Delhi girl and a reserved small-town boy, along with their families, as they deal with the ups and downs of an arranged marriage. Recently, Avinash also shared his thoughts on arranged marriages.

Avinash Tiwary opens up about arranged marriage experiences

In a conversation with News18, Avinash said, “Abb woh bhi nahi hogi because if I was supposed to have an arranged marriage, it would’ve happened by now”. Over the years, he experienced the usual process of his family introducing him to potential matches, but none of those meetings culminated in marriage. Recalling one such encounter, he shared, “This one time, my younger sister pushed me to go and meet someone. I had also pushed her to get married and she was just returning the favour after she had tied the knot. I went to meet this really nice person. We sat and spoke for three-and-a-half hours. At the end of the date, I dropped her home.”

Avinash Tiwary recalls pressure after first meeting

“The next day, people in my family were asking me what I thought of her. I told them, ‘It was chill and I had a great time, but how do I make a decision after meeting someone once?’ They insisted that I meet her again. But meeting again would be another step towards marriage. That felt like too much pressure,” Avinash says. He further explains that just meeting and conversing with someone doesn’t feel sufficient to take such a big step. “I can speak to anyone for three-and-a-half hours. I didn’t understand how to figure that someone’s the one by meeting them for even six-seven times. I don’t think this system really works. But yes, if you don’t meet people, your chances of finding the one decreases,” he adds.“It also helps with your confidence. But in our profession, we interact with so many people. Teen ghante kisi ke saath bhi achche nikal sakte hai(Three hours can be a good time with anyone). That’s why I couldn’t take a call about marrying her,” he says. He also shared that there was a phase when he was keen on getting married, but his family held him back, considering he was too young at the time. This was during the early days of his acting journey.

Avinash Tiwary shares family pressure over the years

“Before they thought of getting me married, I decided to get married. This was some 18 years ago. I felt ready for it. But they didn’t think that I was. Abb bechaare bhugat rahe hai(The poor guy is suffering). That’s why I remain unmarried even now. In the last few years, they’ve been after me to get married a few times. Then they gave up, came back again, then gave up again,” he says.

Avinash Tiwary sets 2026-end marriage deadline

Avinash humorously reveals that he has now set a new deadline for himself by the end of this year. “Sometimes, they tell me that unke bas mein abhi yeh raha nahi. But for the past two-three months, they’re at it again. My mother calls me every day and tells me, ‘Beta, iss saal karlo. Aath mahine reh gaya. Winter mein karlo.’ I’ve promised her that I surely will get married and won’t let her die before that happens,” he says.
