Shamas replaces injured Najiha Alvi in Pakistan’s Asia Cup squadWicketkeeper-batter Najiha Alvi has been ruled out of Pakistan’s squad for the Asia Cup after picking up a knee injury. Najiha complained of pain in her posterior left knee and subsequently underwent scans. The scans revealed a possible sprain in her knee, ruling her out of the competition.

“Following an assessment by the PCB’s medical team, Najiha is set to begin her rehabilitation programme immediately, which is expected to last up to four weeks. The national women’s selection committee added Sadaf to the Asia Cup squad,” confirmed a PCB statement on Monday.

Najiha was selected only for the Asia Cup, leaving her out of the Asian Games later in September. In her stead, Sadaf Shamas, who was in the reserves for the competition, will join the main squad.

While Sadaf has not played any T20I game since October 2024, her recent run in ODIs has been nothing short of incredible. In the nine games she has played this year, she has scored at an average of 54, with one hundred and four fifties, three of which were 90-plus scores.
