A sudden flood in the Bhotekoshi River battered Nepal’s Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning, sweeping through settlements and causing widespread destruction. Houses, bridges and other structures were damaged as muddy floodwaters surged through the area, with several people reported missing.Dramatic visuals circulating on social media show the scale of the flooding, with torrents of brown water rushing through communities and engulfing buildings and bridges. In some videos, structures appear to be swept away within seconds as the powerful current tears through the area. The visuals also show people struggling to move to safer ground as the floodwaters rapidly rise.The sudden surge has left large parts of the affected area severely damaged. Roads and bridges have been inundated, while homes and public infrastructure have been damaged by the force of the water. Several people are missing, although authorities have yet to release a confirmed toll of deaths, injuries or the full extent of property damage, according to The Kathmandu Post.Rasuwa Chief District Officer Narendra Pariyar said the cause of the sudden flood remained unclear. He said the weather in the area had been sunny and authorities were investigating whether the surge could have been linked to a glacier burst or another event upstream.Authorities have issued high alerts and urged residents living along the Trishuli River basin to move to safer locations. People in areas including Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan and Gorkha, particularly those living close to riverbanks, have been advised to evacuate as water levels in the Bhotekoshi River rise.According to a list provided by Nepal’s National Tourism Board, more than 100 Indians and 37 non-resident Indians (NRIs) are reported missing following the disaster.
