Producer Pranay Reddy Vanga who is the brother of who has worked alongside his brother director Sandeep Reddy Vanga in the Telugu film ‘Arjun Reddy’ and Ranbir Kapoor starrer ‘Animal’ and recently explained why he feels Hyderabad is a better and cheaper place to make big films compared to Mumbai.
Pranay Reddy Vanga talks about production costs in Mumbai
According to a report by Indian Express, Pranay Reddy Vanga shared that his experience of making ‘Animal’ in Mumbai showed him how much more a film can cost there. According to him, the same film could have cost 20 to 30 percent less if it was made from Hyderabad.“I’d probably spend about 30% more on the same movie if I made Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal from Bombay. Maybe I could save at least 20-30%,” Pranay Reddy Vanga said during an interaction at Honest Townhall.“That is why we’re making Prabhas’ Spirit now from Hyderabad,” he added.
Why is shooting in Hyderabad cheaper?
Pranay Reddy Vanga said studio space and infrastructure are some of the main reasons behind the difference in cost.“I’ve seen shooting in Bombay. It’s a bit more expensive than here in studios because of space constraints and all that,” he said.He explained that Hyderabad has more options when it comes to setting up a film shoot.“In Hyderabad, if we want to set up something or arrange a set, we have plans, shots, and everything ready, or we can easily get what we need. There, people volunteer to help because we have respect among filmmakers,” he said.
Pranay Reddy Vanga compares the two film industries
Pranay Reddy Vanga also said Mumbai productions are more corporate and formal in their way of working.“Most corporate companies keep everything on paper, like budgets and control. It’s all a bit formal and documented. You can’t just extend things casually,” he said.He also spoke about the difference in how audiences treat stars in Mumbai and the Telugu market. “There, the audience is a bit less star-driven compared to here,” he said about Mumbai. “They keep watching, but it’s not like the kind of worship we have here (Telugu market). That’s a major difference.”On the current work, the next film ‘Spirit’ starring Prabhas is currently in the production phase. The film is a cop action drama which stars Tripti Dimri as the female lead after Deepika Padukone took an exit from the project.
