Chamari Athapaththu’s 7/5 Leads Sri Lanka to 75-Run Win- IPL

Defending champions Sri Lanka continued their winning run in the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 with a 75-run victory over Indonesia. Captain Chamari Athapaththu produced a stunning spell to lead the side to another strong result.

Sri Lanka were put into bat after Indonesia won the toss and decided to field. The hosts made an early impact as Ni Ariani removed Imesha Dulani in the second over. Ariani made up for an earlier missed opportunity with the wicket.

Athapaththu and Sanjana Kavindi tried to rebuild the innings with a few boundaries. Indonesia’s spinners kept the pressure on, with the uneven bounce making batting difficult. Sri Lanka soon slipped to 36 for four by the eighth over.

The collapse continued as Sri Lanka fell to 62 for six. Their innings looked in serious trouble before Nilakshika Silva produced a vital counterattack. Coming in at No. 6, she took responsibility and helped the defending champions recover.

Silva played a patient knock during the rebuilding phase. She went 43 balls without finding the boundary as Sri Lanka tried to rebuild from 62 for six. She then changed gears when the innings entered its final stages.

The left-hander moved around the crease to attack the shorter boundaries. She found the gaps with greater regularity and targeted Ariani with well-timed shots. A reverse scoop and a flicked six helped Silva reach her third T20I half-century. Silva was dismissed soon after completing her milestone. Her late assault had done its job, though, as Sri Lanka finished on 124 for seven. The total gave their bowlers something to defend after a difficult start.

Athapaththu Destroys Indonesia

Indonesia began the chase with positive intent, forcing Sri Lanka to move their close fielders away. The introduction of spin soon changed the game. Athapaththu opened the damage by bowling Pangestuti before Sugandika removed Dewi.

Athapaththu then claimed two wickets in consecutive deliveries. Dilhari added another wicket by dismissing Wulandari, leaving Indonesia struggling at 29 for five at the halfway stage. Their chase never recovered after the middle-order collapse.

Indonesia went 13 overs without a boundary as Sri Lanka tightened their grip. Athapaththu returned for her final spell and finished the job in spectacular fashion. She dismissed Ariani, Maypriani and Paramitha with three successive deliveries to complete a hat-trick.

Athapaththu ended with remarkable figures of 7/5, recording her first five-wicket haul in international cricket. Her seven wickets also gave her a record-breaking bowling performance. The hat-trick completed a dominant Sri Lankan victory and secured a 75-run win for the defending champions.
