BCCI’s Big Plan for India’s 2027-31 FTP: More Rest and Longer SENA Tours

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants the next Future Tours Programme (FTP) to give Indian players enough rest. The board also wants more time for overseas tours, especially in SENA countries. The SENA countries are South Africa, England, New Zealand and Australia. India are expected to play several series against the top cricket nations during the 2027-31 cycle.

FTP Workshop Set for September

The FTP for the 2027-31 cycle has not been finalised yet. The BCCI has already shared its plans with the other FTP members. According to a Cricbuzz report, an FTP workshop will be held in Dubai on September 22 and 23. Operations teams from cricket boards around the world are expected to attend the workshop. The boards will use the meeting to plan their international tours for the next four years.

BCCI Focuses on Player Workload

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia spoke about the FTP plans after a recent review meeting of the Indian men’s team. He said the number of matches has made the schedule difficult for players. Indian cricketers have faced a busy calendar in recent years. The BCCI now wants to make sure players get proper breaks between important series.

Saikia said the board also wants India to play practice or friendly matches before major series in SENA countries. The aim is to give players time to adjust to the conditions before the main series begins.

“The challenge we are facing is that there are too many matches in the year and that is why, in the next FTP, we will do certain things and take certain measures,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said after the review meeting of the Indian team.

“We have instructed our FTP people, who will be meeting very soon at various international forums, that our FTP should be scheduled in such a way that there is proper rest for the players, as well as some kind of acclimatisation or friendly matches before any major series in SENA countries.”

India Faces Busy ICC Calendar

The BCCI will have to find space for these matches between ICC events, multinational tournaments and bilateral series. India will have a busy international calendar from 2027 to 2031. The next T20 World Cup will take place in Australia and New Zealand in 2028. India will then host the Champions Trophy in 2029.

The 2030 T20 World Cup will be held in England, Scotland and Ireland. India and Bangladesh are scheduled to jointly host the ODI World Cup in 2031. Along with these white-ball tournaments, India will also play Test series at home and away as part of the World Test Championship (WTC). India are scheduled to play Afghanistan in an upcoming series before hosting the West Indies in September 2026.
