Seven-time champions India will face Sri Lanka in the 2026 Women’s T20 Asia Cup final on Sunday. India will look to Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma again. Shafali has scored 168 runs, including two fifties, and is the top scorer in the tournament. Smriti Mandhana has 154 runs, including a century, but has also had two low scores.
Deepti has taken 11 wickets, the joint-most in the tournament with Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu. She also scored a quick 13 off six balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final. Shree Charani and Prema Rawat have also done well with the ball. Sri Lanka are unbeaten and showed great fight against Pakistan in the semi-final. They were 5/2 and then 33/4 while chasing 131. Harshitha Samarawickrama scored 36 and Kavisha Dilhari made 33 before Nilakshika Silva and Kaushini Nuthyangana finished the chase.
India will want to make up for their eight-wicket loss to Sri Lanka in the 2024 final. Athapaththu and Harshitha scored fifties in that match. India also need to improve their fielding. They have dropped nine catches in four matches, including four against Bangladesh in the semi-final. Pratika Rawal dropped two of them. India also dropped three catches against Pakistan and two against Thailand. India will need better fielding and more runs from their batters to beat Sri Lanka in the final.
