Batting first, Afghanistan was expected to post a big score. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran were tasked with laying a solid foundation for the innings. However, both batters found themselves in trouble against the Indian bowlers right from the start.
Jasprit Bumrah bowled five wides at the beginning of the innings, but just two balls later, he dismissed Gurbaz. Abhishek Sharma took an easy catch off a surprised Gurbaz, who was caught off guard by the bounce.

Nabi and Omarzai’s Partnership Revives Afghanistan
At one point, it seemed unlikely that Afghanistan would post a competitive score. However, experienced Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai formed a crucial partnership, adding 83 runs to provide some relief to the team.
Nabi scored 33 runs off 27 balls, while Omarzai played brilliantly, remaining unbeaten on 64 runs off 44 balls. Thanks to their efforts, Afghanistan managed to set a target of 156 runs.
Arshdeep Singh took three important wickets for India. Jasprit Bumrah, returning after a long injury layoff, picked up one wicket for 26 runs in four overs.
On the other hand, Shivam Dube had another expensive outing. In the final over of the match, he conceded 21 runs, allowing Afghanistan to cross the 150-run mark.
Dominant Victory for India with Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan
Chasing a target of 157 runs, India lost a wicket early on. Sanju Samson had a great opportunity to prove himself but failed again, scoring just 8 runs off 10 balls before getting out.
In the second T20 match, Sanju Samson needs to perform better; otherwise, it may become challenging for him to retain his spot in the playing eleven, especially with young players waiting for their chance.
After Samson’s departure, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan took complete control of the match. Both played aggressively, putting pressure on the Afghan bowling attack.
Abhishek Sharma was particularly destructive, reaching his half-century in just 22 balls and then extending his innings further. He finished with a remarkable 82 runs off just 32 balls.
Ishan Kishan also played a vital role, contributing 42 runs and providing excellent support to Abhishek. Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma then completed the job.
Ultimately, India won by nine wickets, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting and the Indian bowlers’ outstanding performance clearly established India’s dominance over Afghanistan in the first match.
