Location
M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is situated on Mahatma Gandhi Road in central Bengaluru. It is close to Cubbon Park and MG Road, making it one of the most centrally located major cricket grounds in India.
History
The foundation stone of the stadium was laid in 1969 and construction started in 1970. It was originally known as the Karnataka State Cricket Association Stadium.
The stadium hosted its first Test match between India and West Indies in November 1974. The match also marked the Test debuts of West Indies legends Viv Richards and Gordon Greenidge.
The stadium was later renamed M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in honour of M. Chinnaswamy, a former president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and BCCI.
