India fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has signed for Nottinghamshire for their final two County Championship matches of the season. This will be Mukesh’s first stint in English domestic cricket. Nottinghamshire will face Sussex in Hove from September 15, before hosting Yorkshire from September 24.
Mukesh Excited for County Cricket
Mukesh said he is looking forward to playing in England and testing himself in county cricket.
“I can’t wait to arrive in England and test myself in county cricket,” Mukesh said in a statement. “I want to contribute as much as I can while I am here to help Nottinghamshire to success, and I am looking forward to working with the coaches and my new team-mates. Coming to England is always a good challenge, and I am excited by the chance to play for a new team in new conditions.”
Mukesh was recently part of the Duleep Trophy. He took 3 for 62 as East Zone beat South Zone in the final after taking a first-innings lead.
Strong First-Class Record
The 31-year-old has claimed 233 wickets from 60 first-class games. He has achieved 10 five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket match haul in his career. Mukesh has participated in three Test matches for India. In those matches, he has claimed seven wickets.
Nottinghamshire Welcome Mukesh
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said the club is happy to have Mukesh at an important stage of the season. “We’re really excited to get Mukesh over at what is a crucial time of the season,” Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores said. “He comes straight off the back of a really competitive game in the Duleep Trophy Final, in which he was on the winning team and played a pivotal role in securing the win for East Zone.
“Mukesh’s quality as a bowler is not in question, knowing how hard it is to compete to play in the Indian team. It’s fantastic for us to get a player who’s match-ready and in full competitive mode ahead of two big games for the club.”
Nottinghamshire are the second-best placed team in the County Championship points table with 185 points after winning five out of their six games. Mukesh is the latest Indian player to play county cricket. Kuldeep Yadav is playing for Yorkshire, while Manav Suthar is with Warwickshire. Auqib Nabi has also played a game in the County Championship for Surrey.
