Babar Azam has entered the International League T20 Auction, set to take place at the ICC Academy Indoors on October 1. He is among 17 other Pakistan players to have registered for the auction, divided across three base price cohorts.
Babar’s inclusion in the list comes as a surprise, with the right-handed player usually among pre-auction or draft signings for leagues. Last year, he bagged a $274,000 deal with Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers as their pre-draft signing.
Besides Babar, Fakhar Zaman, Naseem Shah, Usman Tariq, Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub, Sufiyan Moqim, Mohammad Nawaz, and Hasan Ali feature in the top base price bracket, $80,000.
Who is eligible for RTM?
Among these players, Fakhar, Naseem, and Usman are also eligible for the Right to Match (RTM) option by Desert Vipers, having played for the franchise in its victory run last edition.
The next category, with a base price of $40,000, includes Shadab Khan, Hasan Nawaz, Khushdil Shah, Maaz Sadaqat, Abdul Samad, Farhan Yousaf, and Hunain Shah. Among these, Vipers can use the RTM option for Hasan Nawaz only.
Only one Pakistan player, Ghazi Ghori, is part of the bottom tier, with a base price of $10,000. Ghori is uncapped in T20Is for Pakistan and has yet to make his Pakistan Super League (PSL) debut. He has played a total of 19 T20s in his career, scoring at an average of 20 with a 112 strike rate.
Among full-member nations, Pakistan have the fourth-most players set to go under the hammer, with 70 England players leading the list followed by Afghanistan (56), Sri Lanka (24), and West Indies (23).
