Eden Carson Returns as New Zealand Announce Squad for Australia T20I Series- IPL

New Zealand have recalled Eden Carson, Molly Penfold, Hannah Rowe and Bella James for the three-match T20I series against Australia later this month. Carson returns after recovering from elbow surgery. The off-spinner has not played since December last year and has 51 international caps.

Carson Returns After Injury

Carson said she was happy to return to the White Ferns squad after a long rehabilitation period. “The rehab process has taken a lot of patience,” Carson said. “I’m feeling ready to get back out there and contribute.” Carson joins a spin attack that includes captain Amelia Kerr, Nensi Patel and Flora Devonshire.

Penfold and Rowe Return

Penfold and Rowe return to the pace attack after the international retirements of Sophie Devine and Lea Tahuhu. Rowe and Bella James spent part of the winter with New Zealand A in Sri Lanka. Penfold recently played for Sandgate Redcliffe Gators in Australia’s KFC T20 Max competition. James gives New Zealand another batting option after Suzie Bates left international cricket.

Izzy Gaze Ruled Out

Wicketkeeper-batter Izzy Gaze will miss the series after undergoing surgery on a thumb injury. Gaze is targeting a return to cricket in early 2027. Polly Inglis will take over the wicketkeeping duties in Gaze’s absence.

Dean Brownlie will serve as New Zealand’s interim head coach after Ben Sawyer’s departure. Brownlie has worked as New Zealand’s batting coach for nearly four years. New Zealand are expected to announce additional coaching support for the Australia tour next week.

Brownlie welcomed the return of Carson, Penfold, Rowe and James.

“We’re excited to welcome back Eden, Hannah, Molly, and Bella,” Brownlie said. “Competing against the best in the world is always going to be a challenge.” The Australia series will be New Zealand’s first international assignment of the 2026-27 season. The three T20Is will also form part of New Zealand’s preparations for the inaugural 2027 ICC Women’s Champions Trophy in India.
