The 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled to be played between October 2 and November 21 across South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe.
Pakistan drawn in Group A
Twelve teams, out of which have yet to be decided, have been bifurcated into groups of six teams each. India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Australia, Zimbabwe, and one qualifier team have been drawn into Group A while Bangladesh, England, South Africa, Sri Lanka, New Zealand and the other qualifier are pooled into Group B.
The four teams yet to be decided will play a 10-team qualifying tournament, the winner of which will earn a ticket straight to the ODI World Cup. The runner-up and semi-finalists will play a three-team Super Series ahead of the World Cup to decide the second qualifier.
Pakistan will play all but one of their games in South Africa. They will open their campaign against Afghanistan on October 8 in Tshwane. This will be followed by a high-intensity clash between Pakistan and India on October 10 in Johannesburg.
Their game against Qualifier A has been scheduled to be played on October 15 in Bloemfontein, following which they will travel to play Zimbabwe in Harare on October 19. They will face the title-defender Australia in their last group stage game on October 22 in Paarl.
Another Pakistan vs India could take place in Super 7
Following the group stages, the top three teams from each group will progress to the Super 7 stage. The seventh spot will be taken by the fourth-ranked team placed higher across both groups. Seven teams have been pre-seeded to take up the Super 7 spots as follows:
A1: India
A2: Australia
A3: Pakistan
AB4: England
B1: New Zealand
B2: South Africa
B3: Sri Lanka
If any other team, besides the above, progress to the Super 7 in the stead of the pre-seeded teams, they will take the seeding of the team that is knocked out. For instance, if Afghanistan, instead of Pakistan, qualify from Group A, they will assume Pakistan’s A3 seeding.
