Pakistan have appointed Sahibzada Farhan as captain for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka. He replaces Salman Ali Agha, who led Pakistan at the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Agha has not been included in Pakistan’s 15-member squad for the series, which starts on October 9.
Farhan scored 383 runs at the T20 World Cup to finish as Pakistan’s leading run-scorer. The 30-year-old recently led Pakistan to a silver medal at the Asian Games. Several players from that squad have also been included in the senior team.
Abdul Samad, Saim Ayub, Hasan Nawaz, Arafat Minhas, Maaz Sadaqat, Abrar Ahmed, Sufiyan Moqim and Mohammad Salman Mirza have retained their places. Farhan, however, will not feature in Pakistan’s ODI squad for the upcoming tri-series involving Sri Lanka and England.
Shaheen Shah Afridi will captain the ODI side. The squad will form part of Pakistan’s preparations for next year’s World Cup. Abdul Samad, Rohail Nazir, Shamyl Hussain, Maaz Sadaqat and Ahmed Daniyal have been left out from the squad that beat Australia 2-1 in an ODI series in January.
Fakhar Zaman, Faheem Ashraf, Razaullah, Saad Baig and Saim Ayub have been included in the ODI squad. Hasan Nawaz has also been selected after scoring 96 runs in the Asian Games final against India. The ODI tri-series will begin on October 18. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and England will play each other twice in the league stage. The top two teams will meet in the final on October 31 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
