NEW DELHI: Police visited Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata on Sunday. However, he was not at home at the time. No one was available to receive the notice, the officer said.On Sunday, the situation was initially similar. No one was ready to accept the notice when the police team arrived. After some time, however, the notice was handed over to Banerjee’s staff at the residence, the officer said. The case relates to a disturbance on August 27. Police and KMC officials had attempted to remove a billboard bearing the TMC name and its twin-flower symbol from the building housing Banerjee’s office on Camac Street in central Kolkata. The action triggered protests by Banerjee’s supporters, who opposed the removal of the signage.Three FIRs were registered at Shakespeare Sarani police station in connection with the incident. Banerjee has already been questioned in one of the cases. He appeared at the police station and spoke to investigators for several hours. Police now want to question him again in the same case.

The fire department had also separately served a notice in connection with the matter.Meanwhile, TMC spokesperson and MLA Kunal Ghosh criticised the police action. He objected to the timing of the notice, with Durga Puja just days away. Condemning the move, Ghosh said, “The BJP (government) has stooped so low that a notice has been served even after Mahalaya when the Durga Puja is just days away.”
