India became the first team in the series to defend a total, winning the match by 14 runs and taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Arshdeep Singh changed the game with a brilliant final over as India held their nerve to secure a close win. Both teams scored plenty of runs, but India’s experienced bowlers made the difference in the end.
Batting first once again, the hosts posted a daunting total. Half-century from Abhishek Sharma and runs from Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Axar Patel took them past the 200-run mark. Prince Yadav chipped in with a cameo, scoring three boundaries in the final over to swell the total to 223. Two wickets apiece for Roston Chase, Shamar Joseph and Shamar Springer, while Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie chipped in with one each to round out a clinical bowling display.
In reply, the Windies lost Shai Hope in the second over. Kamil Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer threatened to take the game away, but Naman Dhir removed both well-set batters. Rutherford and Sampson got runs but couldn’t score at the required pace, and the Windies eventually fell short by 14 runs. Arshdeep was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Naman Dhir claimed two and Axar and Reddy picked up one apiece, capping off a fine bowling performance from India.
