India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI: BCCI Clears Air on Delhi Venue

The Indian cricket team is set to take on Sri Lanka in a white-ball series subsequently to the conclusion of its ongoing match series against the West Indies, followed by a tour to New Zealand, which will contain 5 T20, 5 ODIs, and two Test matches. The series against Sri Lanka is slated to commence in December 2026.

The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka is set to be played on December 13 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. However, recent reports suggested that this match might be further moved to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has now clarified the situation saying that there are nothing like any plans of moving the first ODI from Delhi to Ahmedabad.

“Reports suggesting that the India–Sri Lanka ODI match scheduled in Delhi may be shifted to Ahmedabad are not accurate. There has been no such decision by the BCCI. We request media colleagues to kindly refer to official BCCI communications for any updates regarding the schedule. Further, it needs to be reiterated that bilateral matches are primarily allotted by following a standard policy,” Devajit Saikia said in a BCCI release.

India have a busy schedule ahead. After their series against the West Indies and the tour of New Zealand, the team will face Sri Lanka in three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI matches will be played on December 13, 16, and 19, while the T20I matches are scheduled for December 22, 24, and 27.

India have been in good form recently and will aim to continue their winning run against Sri Lanka. The tour of New Zealand before the Sri Lanka series will also be important for the team. It will be interesting to see how India perform in both series.
