IPL 2026: Mumbai Indians Hit by Injuries, Rohit Sharma to Miss More Matches

The Mumbai Indians are facing many injury problems in the Indian Premier League 2026 season. Even before the tournament started, they lost spinner Atharva Ankolekar, who had to undergo knee surgery.

Then, Rohit Sharma got a hamstring injury, so he has already missed 4 matches and will miss more games. Mitchell Santner is also out of the tournament after hurting his left shoulder while taking a catch. South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj has been announced as his replacement. As if this wasn’t enough, Mumbai is hit with another injury.

Hardik Pandya Updates Rohit Sharma After MI Injury Blow

Quinton de Kock, who’d hit an unbeaten hundred against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), has been ruled out of the MI vs Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) match. MI captain Hardik Pandya stated that the South African wicketkeeper-batter had injured his wrist and will miss the game. As a result, Ryan Rickelton, who was initially the keeper MI had opted for, returns as the opener. Santner’s injury also brings Will Jacks into the team, and the Englishman will return Danish Malewar as the opener.

“Mitchell (Santner) was unfortunate, and so was Quinny today. He just did something to his wrist. We have a couple of changes for this team. Ryan (Rickelton) comes in place of Quinny. We’ve got Robin Minz,” Hardik said after winning the toss and opting to bowl first at the Wankhede Stadium.

Hardik Pandya also gave an update on Rohit Sharma’s fitness. As said earlier, Rohit has a hamstring injury, which he got during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12. He’s missed four matches, including the SRH one. According to Pandya, he will miss at least 2-3 more games.

“Rohit is going to take a couple more games. He’s been trying; it’s not up to exactly where he would want, so he’s not available for the team,” Hardik added.

Rohit Sharma could return on May 10 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru or May 14 against Punjab Kings. But since his comeback has already been delayed a few times, he may take more time to recover.
