With Multan Sultans out of the competition, only three teams, including Islamabad United, Hyderabad Kingsmen, and Peshawar Zalmi, remain. Zalmi, who are already in the final, have only one game left to play, regardless of the result. A similar case applies to Hyderabad and Islamabad. The loser of Eliminator 2 will be knocked out, while the winner will join Zalmi.
But Zalmi’s players have little to worry about being displaced at the top. Sufiyan Muqeem and Kusal Mendis/Babar Azam have stayed at the top of the bowling and batting charts, respectively, for nearly half the season. Muqeem has 21 wickets, four more than Shadab Khan, who is next on the list. Hyderabad Kingsmen’s Mohammad Ali has also joined the top five after grabbing two wickets against Multan. He is currently the only player from the remaining teams, apart from Sufiyan Muqeem, in the top five wicket-takers’ list.
For the Hanif Mohammad Cap, the battle seems more straightforward. It has come down to which of Kusal Mendis or Babar Azam replaces the other. Mendis is trailing Babar by 47 runs, but it is safe to say the cap will remain with a Zalmi batter regardless.
