Rishabh Pant(Captain) of Lucknow Super Giants is under immense pressure owing to an unsuccessful Indian Premier League campaign in 2026. Sanju Samson Likely to Replace Rishabh Pant as India Rebuilds ODI Squad

It is possible that Sanju Samson will replace him. Samson can take the role of the second-choice keeper, whereas KL Rahul is set to retain his position as the first-choice keeper. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and coach Gautam Gambhir are looking ahead at the ODI World Cup that will be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in 2027.

It is likely that they will select players who have been playing well recently. Samson’s last game in ODI cricket was in 2023 and he scored a hundred in that match. Samson has been playing very well in IPL 2026 and has scored two hundreds.

He has also been part of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup-winning side. Rishabh Pant debuted in ODI cricket in 2018. He has featured in 31 ODIs, scoring 871 runs with one century. However, his current form is not good enough to make it to the team.
