Kid Cudi faces USD 2.8 M lawsuit after firing M.I.A.: Singer alleges termination was ‘abrupt and unjustified’

Rapper Kid Cudi is facing a massive lawsuit worth USD 2.8 million! Fellow musician M.I.A., as per the latest reports, has filed a lawsuit against the ‘Mojo So Dope’ singer after he dropped her from his ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour. While Cudi had cited that he dropped her from his tour for making offensive comments on stage, the 50-year-old singer has alleged that he breached her contract with this.

M.I.A. sues Kid Cudi for USD 2.8 million

M.I.A had been hired to serve as an opener for Kid Cudi’s ‘Rebel Ragers’ tour, which is currently going on in full force. However, as per Rolling Stone reports, the ‘Paper Planes’ singer has alleged that Cudi broke the terms and conditions of her contract. Serving him with a USD 2.8 million lawsuit, she cited that she filed the lawsuit complaint in the Los Angeles court on May 29.While talking to PEOPLE about the case, the singer cited that Kid Cudi was well aware of her politics and also knew that she would not stay silent. A statement from the report read, “Kid Cudi’s attempts to silence freedom of artistic expression and speech on his Rebel Ragers tour cannot go unchallenged. Censorship is something M.I.A. has fought against her whole career.”Calling her firing “unjustified”, the statement further added, “Kid Cudi’s claimed shock over her comments he now labels as ‘offensive’ and his abrupt and unjustified termination of her performance agreement is a desperate attempt to sell tickets for his tour that was drastically underselling. As a result, his false allegations have fueled a misguided, hive-minded pile-on based on a deliberate misrepresentation of her words.

What happened with M.I.A and Kid Cudi?

When M.I.A was hired by Kid Cudi and his team to perform at around 33 shows as his opener act for the tour, but she was fired last month. After the May 2 Dallas concert drew criticism from the public when M.I.A started talking about what political side she’s on as well as her immigration status, among other things.The comments from M.I.A statement that prompted this action from the rapper and his team stated that “I’ve been canceled for many things. I never thought I’d be canceled for being a Republican voting American. So I’ve come to meet you all in person. This is the ‘allow me to reintroduce myself’ tour.” She also called herself “illegal” and further shared, “Alright, I am illegal. Half of my team is not here because they didn’t get a visa. I want you to know that.”In response, Kid Cudi’s team had terminated her remaining tenure for the tour. The rapper had also written a social media post which had read, “After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants. This, to me, is very disappointing, and I won’t have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upset my fanbase. Thank you for understanding.”Kid Cudi is currently embarking on his ‘Rebel Rager’ tour. At the time of writing, neither he nor his team has issued any public statement regarding the lawsuit.
