‘Don't know why people choose to see just a political angle’: Ranvir Shorey dismiss political angle debate around ‘Dhurandhar’
Ranvir Shorey and director Shreyansh Pandey have dismissed the political agenda debate surrounding Aditya Dhar’s blockbuster spy franchise Dhurandhar. Ranvir called it “grossly unfair” to judge the film on political merit rather than cinematic merit, while Shreyansh described it as “just pure and good storytelling” with no agenda.

Aditya Dhar’s ‘Dhurandhar’ and its sequel ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ have taken the box office by storm, smashing record after record. The spy action thrillers have managed to win over audiences across the board and the film fraternity is no different. Actor Ranvir Shorey is among those who have been completely swept up by the two films.

Shreyansh Pandey calls ‘Dhurandhar’ pure and good storytelling

In a conversation with Moneycontrol, Ranvir and director Shreyansh Pandey opened up about ‘Dhurandhar’ and what it means for storytelling in Indian cinema. Shreyansh was full of admiration for the film and said, “For me, Dhurandhar is just pure and good storytelling. As a viewer, I don’t see any agenda in it. Something happened with our country, someone made a story about it, and made such a stylish story in such a good way, I don’t see an agenda in it.

Ranvir Shorey hits back at critics for focussing on ‘Dhurandhar’s’ political angle

Ranvir was equally vocal in his support, adding his own perspective to the conversation. He said, “Same here. I don’t think either. The first one for me was a good spy thriller. The second one was a spy action film. I don’t know why people choose to see just a political angle. In fact, one of my big pet peeves is this: whatever voices, reviewers, critics are taking a political angle on this film or on these films, you should check their reviews pre-2014, how many films did they review in which they were talking about the politics of the film? So I just think it’s grossly unfair to a film to be looking at the politics angle of a film instead of the cinematic merit of the film.”
