Pakistan captain Fatima Sana had an injury scare during a net session, a day before her side’s opening game against arch-rivals India.
Fatima gets hit on the knee
A straight drive off the top-order batter Ayesha Zafar’s bat hit Fatima, who was bowling in the nets, on the knee. The all-rounder collapsed on the ground, with visible discomfort, and was soon aided by team physios, who took her off the field.
Fatima did not take any further part in the session, remaining on the sidelines. However, after a while, the Pakistan captain was seen walking unaided without any discomfort. During a press conference later, Fatima said the injury was not severe and she expects to be fit to lead the side against India on Sunday.
“I think it is good now,” Fatima said. “We all are ready and we know what the conditions are because we are here since almost two weeks because we played the series against Ireland as well in Ireland. We just need to execute better plans, and we need to be more calm.”
Fatima remains crucial to Pakistan’s campaign
Fatima is an important part of Pakistan’s World Cup-bound squad, contributing with both bat and ball while also leading the side. Her numbers since the previous T20 World Cup have improved significantly as she has batted with a strike rate of 183 while averaging 55+.
Pakistan and India have played 16 T20I games against each other, with India winning 13 of those. Their last face-off came in Dubai during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, where India defeated Pakistan by six wickets.
