‘Nothing but cricket’, Harmanpreet on handshake with Pakistan ahead of T20 World Cup game- IPL

'Nothing but cricket', Harmanpreet on handshake with Pakistan ahead of T20 World Cup gameIndian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has her mind set solely on cricket as she eyes a winning start against Pakistan on Sunday.

Handshake or no handshake?

When asked if India would continue the no-handshake policy with the Pakistan side, the Indian captain said that her team is only here for the game and will not engage in anything other than that.

“We are here for cricket, and we only talk about cricket,” Kaur said on the eve of the game against Pakistan. “Except cricket, we don’t talk about anything, and I don’t even think we know anything except cricket.”

“Cricket has been our dream from day one, and we only discuss cricket, and for tomorrow’s game, we are only thinking about it as another game which we are going to play.”

The Pakistan vs India pressure

Pakistan and India have played 16 T20I games against each other, with India winning 13 of those. Their last face-off came in Dubai during the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup, where India defeated Pakistan by six wickets.

Despite their dominant record against the arch-rivals, the Indian captain believes the game has its own pressure but her side will treat it as a normal fixture as they hope to deliver their best.

“I won’t say there’s no pressure – there is pressure. Since I started watching cricket, as a supporter I have felt that pressure, and now that we play it’s even more.

“But at the same time we always say that the more we enjoy this game the better it is for us, because we are the lucky ones who are picked for this big occasion and we just want to enjoy ourselves on the field. More than anything, it is another game we are going to play tomorrow and we just want to play our best cricket.”
