Feel-like temperature at 43.4°C as Delhi reels under hot and humid conditions

NEW DELHI: Delhiites continued to reel under hot and humid conditions. No significant change is expected during the next seven days.The maximum temperature Sunday was 38.9 degrees Celsius, which is near normal for this time of the year. It was 40.2 degrees Celsius a day earlier.The heat index, or “feel-like” temperature, settled at 43.4 degrees Celsius at 2.30 pm Sunday when the air temperature was 37.2 degrees Celsius.Though India Meteorological Department has not issued any colour coded warning, there is a possibility of a spell of very light rain to light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds up to 60 kmph Sunday night and Monday. The maximum temperature is likely to stay between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius Monday and it may again touch 40 degrees Celsius by June 26.The minimum temperature Sunday was reported at 28.8 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.In June so far, Safdarjung, the city’s base station, has logged 31.2 mm of rainfall as against the entire month’s normal of 74.1 mm.Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality index remained in the moderate category at 127. In June so far, Delhi has recorded 18 “moderate” air days and three satisfactory days.The central pollution control board classifies AQI 0-50 as ‘good’, 51-100 as ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 as ‘moderate’, 201-300 as ‘poor’, 301-400 as ‘very poor’, 401-450 as ‘severe’, and 451 and above as ‘severe plus’.
