The supernatural horror series appeared to go through major changes in the fourth season of ‘From’ but one of the most interesting storylines was left as a mystery and could be explored in the finale of the series. The Golem project in Season 4 was a mystery for Fatima, and it was not fully developed enough to warrant being a significant part of the final showdown, so it may not be a major factor in the finale.Jade and Tabitha finally retrieved the bones of sacrificed children with the help of Boy and others while the Man in Yellow and the Boy in White were revealed to know each other appearing as entities engaging in a bizarre game with the town. Despite these significant plot developments the golem storyline received minimal attention in the season’s final episodes creating an opportunity for the final season to revisit and expand upon this forgotten narrative thread.
Fatima’s golem construction and transformation
Around the midpoint of Season 4, Fatima began sculpting a golem in her room at Colony House. She ultimately confirmed to Ellis that she was creating a golem, a creature from religious folklore that serves as a guardian or protector for those who build it. Fatima’s decision stemmed from her ongoing trauma related to her pregnancy that culminated in the rebirth of a character at the end of the previous season. She had learned about golems from her father, a clergyman, and considered the creation logically appropriate given the townspeople’s dire circumstances.

Fatima worked on her golem across several episodes before discovering in Episode 7, “Best Laid Plans,” that she now possessed a psychic connection with a supernatural creature. Subsequent episodes suggested that Fatima was undergoing transformation herself, with another character discovering that her pulse had dropped to dangerously low levels—low enough that she should have been clinically dead. This transformation reached its culmination in the Season 4 finale, “If A Tree Falls In The Forest...,” when Fatima fully transformed into a creature herself to protect Ellis and her friends so they could escape the caves.
The unresolved subplot and its potential purpose
The show typically introduces subplots with sufficient payoff, making the fact that nothing came of Fatima’s golem before the season finale somewhat disappointing. The subplot itself remains intriguing purely because inanimate objects have previously come to life in the town particularly the monster dolls found in the lake of an old settlement in a previous episode. The golem could serve a valuable purpose in the final season now that a major antagonist has stolen and disposed of all the talismans, which were the townspeople’s only means of defense from the creatures that emerge at night. If Fatima’s golem somehow comes to life, it could provide the townspeople with an alternative defense or equalizer to combat the creatures, or it could become another terrifying monster they must confront.
Alternative interpretation of the golem’s meaning
The golem subplot may not have been hinting at the possibility of Fatima’s sculpture coming to life, but instead served as an external metaphor for her own transformation. In this interpretation, Fatima may have become the very protector she was building for the town. Although Fatima transformed into a creature, she used her abilities to ward off other creatures hunting her friends. She also appeared to gain stronger control over her abilities in the finale, suggesting the season may have been building toward her becoming a creature while maintaining her most important bonds.

During an earlier episode, Fatima mentioned the Golem of Prague from Jewish folklore, who went on a rampage one night after his master forgot to remove the letter that controls it during the Sabbath. The reference to this ancient fable might have been a story hint suggesting that she would turn into a protective force for those around her in the future.
The final season’s opportunity
Now that ‘From’ is back for its final season, Fatima’s destiny after her odd transformation is in question. The golem subplot has the ideal opportunity to be explored in both ways, either the golem comes to life as a real protector or it is in the form of Fatima herself who is transformed. In both cases, it would give the supernatural horror series a sweet and satisfying ending that upholds the storylines that have been set up throughout the series.
