Agha could take a break from T20s to focus on the 2027 World Cup preparation- IPL

Pakistan Super League (PSL) games are the only shortest-format matches Pakistan players will feature in until December.

Salman’s placid PSL

For the remainder of the year, their schedule is packed with ODIs and Test matches. Pakistan T20 captain Salman Ali Agha, for one, is ready to grind in the longer formats, especially with the 2027 ODI World Cup approaching.

Speaking to the media after his team, Karachi Kings, lost to his former side, Islamabad United, Salman acknowledged that he has not been too impressive in the PSL this season. He has scored only 84 runs in six games at a strike rate of 129. But what concerns him more is his preparation for the mega-event next year.

“There is a lot of concern. I keep thinking my World Cup is not going well and my PSL is also not going well. The World Cup 2027 is still far away, and as mentioned, we will focus on that. We don’t even have T20s this year; there are no T20s till December,” Agha said.

Salman might take a break

Though he is the side’s captain, Salman could take a break from T20s until the World Cup, which will be played in October-November next year. Salman is generally considered a player for the longer formats, and his PSL and T20 numbers reflect that.

“After this PSL, the focus will obviously be on ODIs and Test matches. If I feel that for the World Cup 2027 I should take a break from T20s for preparation, or if I don’t want to focus on that, then I will definitely do it,” he added.

Currently, Karachi are in fifth place on the points table, with only three wins in six matches.
