PUNE: For months, Siya Goyal appeared to be living the life of a young woman preparing for her marriage. She attended family functions, stayed in touch with her fiancé Ketan Agrawal and his family, planned a November wedding in Rajasthan, shared Instagram reels with him and, after his death, even posted an emotional birthday tribute mourning the man she was supposed to marry.But police now believe there may have been another side to her life.According to sources, police probing Ketan Agrawal’s murder now suspect that Goyal had secretly married her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, nearly four months before Agrawal was allegedly pushed to his death from Lohagad Fort near Lonavala on June 18.Sources said the alleged secret marriage came to light during the examination of WhatsApp chats, call records, location history and internet search records recovered from the accused’s mobile phones.Pune realtor murder: Siya Goyal ‘secretly’ married Chetan Chaudhary months before killing Ketan Agarwal, claim sourcesPolice are now trying to trace the couple’s marriage certificate to establish the sequence of events, while police technical teams are trying to recover deleted photographs from a private Instagram account that reportedly showed Siya and Chetan Chaudhary wearing wedding garlands.According to sources, two college friends of Goyal allegedly signed as witnesses to the marriage.Police suspect the couple kept the marriage hidden from both families even as wedding preparations with Ketan continued.A public life that gave little awayThe alleged secret marriage has cast fresh attention on Siya Goyal’s public interactions in the months before the killing.As per the police sources, Siya continued to maintain regular contact with Ketan Agrawal and his family, participated in wedding-related preparations and appeared to lead what seemed like a normal engagement.Police had earlier told news agency PTI that Siya Agrawal’s family had already begun making travel arrangements for relatives and friends for the November wedding and had sought Aadhaar details from Siya’s family to book tickets.Yet, according to police, a Snapchat message allegedly sent by Siya to one of her friends in May painted a different picture.In the message, she reportedly asked the friend to share an Aadhaar card for wedding travel bookings while simultaneously writing that the marriage itself was “not going to take place.”“Send your Aadhaar card front and back side photo for tickets for the wedding, which is anyway not going to take place, but still do send it,” the message read, according to police.Police are now questioning whether the friend had any prior knowledge of the alleged conspiracy, PTI had reported.Instagram post now under scannerAnother development that has drawn investigators’ attention is an Instagram story Siya Goyal posted on June 19 — her birthday and a day after Agrawal’s death.At the time, police had registered an accidental death report, stating that Ketan Agrawal had fallen nearly 400 feet into a gorge while taking photographs at Lohagad Fort.The post read:“You left me on my birthday… u left when we were so close to getting married. I still can’t understand why you did this to me. I had dreams, questions I’ll never get answers to. Why did you leave me when I loved you so much? Rest in peace.”It also included the Hindi line:“Mere dil ko pata hai ki tu yahi hai. Wapas aaja.”Police sources had earlier told TOI that the post is being examined as part of the investigation.“At that stage, no one suspected foul play. The post generated sympathy and helped project the death as a tragic mishap,” a senior official had said.Murder plot was ‘planned in advance’The investigation has also uncovered what police describe as evidence of advance planning.PTI earlier reported that investigators believe Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary rehearsed how to push Agrawal off a cliff at an open space near a club in Lullanagar before the incident.Police also alleged that an earlier attempt to kill Ketan was made on June 14 at Lohagad Fort but failed.According to investigators, after that visit Ketan Agrawal returned home disturbed and questioned his father about whether Siya’s background had been properly verified before the marriage was fixed.Police said Ketan had expressed suspicion that Siya was in a relationship with someone else, mentioning Chetan Chaudhary’s name repeatedly in conversations with his family.His father, however, reportedly reassured him that there was probably nothing to worry about because the two families were related through common relatives.Police have arrested Goyal and Chaudhary on charges of murdering Agrawal.With investigators now attempting to establish whether Goyal and Chaudhary had secretly married months before the killing, the case has taken a dramatic new turn, raising questions about whether the engagement, wedding preparations and public displays of grief masked a parallel relationship that remained hidden until investigators pieced together the accused’s digital trail.(With agency inputs)
