Pakistan pacer Mohammad Ali’s Vitality Blast stint with Nottinghamshire has come to a close as he has been named in the side’s Test squad for the West Indies tour. In his place, the franchise has signed Sri Lanka’s Binura Fernando for the rest of the tournament.
Ali’s Vitality Blast stint
Ali had been brilliant for the Notts as he grabbed 19 wickets in ten games at an average of 16.21. This wicket tally puts him in second place among wicket-takers in the competition, just three wickets behind fellow Pakistani and Yorkshire pacer Hasan Ali.
Peter Moores, Nottinghamshire’s head coach, said:
“It will be a shame to lose Mohammad Ali, who has done really well for us up until now, but we wish him all the best with Pakistan and we’re excited to have Binura join in his place.”
Fernando to join Notts at the business end of Vitality Blast
The incoming pacer Fernando, has plenty in his arsenal to help him fill Ali’s shoes. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the Bangladesh Premier League earlier this year, taking 18 wickets in eleven appearances.
“It’s exciting to be able to have Binura joining the squad at the business end of the competition. He has a proven record in white-ball cricket and real international pedigree, his skillset adds genuine variety to the team, and he will complement the rest of our bowling attack,” said Moores.
