Bangladesh Venues Confirmed, India Tour Still Under Cloud- IPL

Asia Cup 2027: Bangladesh Venues Confirmed, India Tour Still Under CloudThe dates, venues, and format for the Asia Cup 2027 have reportedly been finalized, with Bangladesh set to host the continental tournament. According to a Cricbuzz report, the competition will begin on June 18, 2027, and conclude with the final on July 4, 2027. Unlike the previous edition, which was played in the T20 format, the 2027 tournament will be held in the 50-over ODI format as teams prepare for the ICC ODI World Cup later in the year.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has already started preparations for the event. The matches will be played across three major venues in Bangladesh—Mirpur, Chattogram, and Sylhet. While the 2025 Asia Cup was held in September, the 2027 edition has been moved to the June-July window. The final venue-wise schedule is expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Bangladesh Set to Host Asia Cup After 11 Years

Hosting the Asia Cup is a significant achievement for Bangladesh. The country will stage the tournament for the first time since 2016, when it finished as the runner-up after losing to India in the final. The 2027 edition will also be the first major international tournament hosted under the leadership of former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who recently became the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

There has also been an update regarding India’s proposed tour of Bangladesh. Ibrahim Ahmed, the son of Bangladesh’s Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, said that the government is ready to provide maximum security for the Indian team if the tour goes ahead. He stated that additional security personnel would be deployed if required. However, he also admitted that discussions with the BCCI have not yet reached a final agreement.

BCB Includes India Tour in 2026 Commercial Rights Package

The BCB remains hopeful that India will travel to Bangladesh in 2026 despite the uncertainty. Reflecting this confidence, the board recently invited Expressions of Interest (EOI) for its international broadcasting and sponsorship rights for the 2026 and 2027 seasons. India’s 2026 tour has been included as one of the key attractions in the commercial package.

Recent changes to the international cricket calendar have also increased hopes of the tour taking place. India’s upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in August no longer includes T20Is, unlike earlier plans. This has led to speculation that cricket administrators are making room in the schedule and are becoming more optimistic about India visiting Bangladesh.

Despite these positive signs, uncertainty still remains because of the recent political tensions between India and Bangladesh. Relations between the two countries had become strained over the past year, raising questions about the future of bilateral cricket and multi-nation tournaments involving both teams.

The situation had become so serious that the previous Yunus-led administration withdrew Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup hosted by India, citing safety and security concerns. Although relations now appear to be improving, it remains to be seen whether India will travel to Bangladesh for both the bilateral series and the Asia Cup 2027. The coming months are expected to provide greater clarity on the participation of both teams.
