England’s strong performance against India in the ongoing T20I series has brought major changes in the latest ICC T20I rankings. After the opening match in Durham was washed out due to rain, England bounced back with a four-wicket win in the second T20I before crushing India by 125 runs in the third match at Nottingham. While Indian players saw very little movement in the rankings, several England stars made impressive gains.
Jacob Bethell was the biggest winner among batters. The young left-hander climbed seven places from 15th to 8th in the ICC T20I batting rankings after his match-winning 76-run knock in the second T20I. His innings played a key role in England’s successful run chase and helped him enter the top ten for the first time.
England captain Jos Buttler remains at No. 7 despite not making a major impact with the bat in the series so far. On the other hand, India’s Ishan Kishan continues to hold the No. 1 position in the T20I batting rankings. Abhishek Sharma stays at No. 2, while Tilak Varma is the only other Indian in the top ten at sixth place.
Sam Curran Climbs in ICC T20I Bowling Rankings
England all-rounder Sam Curran also enjoyed a good rise in the bowling rankings. After taking figures of 3/33 in the second T20I, he jumped to 71st place among T20I bowlers. Veteran leg-spinner Adil Rashid moved up one spot to become the world’s No. 3 ranked T20I bowler.
Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan continues to lead the bowling rankings. India’s Varun Chakravarthy slipped two places from third to fifth after missing out on ranking points. Jasprit Bumrah also dropped two spots to eighth as he has been rested for the ongoing T20I series against England.
Sikandar Raza Retains No. 1 Spot Among T20I All-Rounders
There were notable changes in the T20I all-rounders’ rankings as well. Pakistan’s Saim Ayub replaced Hardik Pandya to move into the No. 2 position, while Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza continued to hold the top spot. England’s Will Jacks climbed six places to seventh in the latest rankings.
Sam Curran also gained six places in the all-rounders’ rankings to reach 13th. His rise came after his all-round performances against India, including a three-wicket spell in the second T20I and an unbeaten 41-run knock in the third match. His contributions played an important role in England winning back-to-back matches.
Despite the defeats, India’s top-ranked T20I batters have managed to keep their positions, but England’s players have closed the gap with strong performances. With more matches left in the series, both teams will have another chance to improve their rankings before the next ICC update.
