India’s Fielding Coach T Dilip Set to Leave? Poor Catching Under Fresh Scrutiny- IPL

India’s Fielding Coach T Dilip Set to Leave? Poor Catching Under Fresh ScrutinyOne of the biggest reasons behind India’s 0-2 T20I series defeat to Ireland was their poor fielding. The Men in Blue dropped six catches across the two matches, allowing Ireland to capitalize on crucial opportunities. The costly errors once again put India’s fielding standards under the spotlight, with concerns growing over a recurring issue that has plagued the side over the past few years.

T Dilip Likely to Leave Team India Setup: Report

According to a report by the Times of India, a member of Team India’s support staff is set to leave the national setup and is likely to join an IPL franchise with an international presence. India Today’s Nikhil Naz has speculated that the departing member could be fielding coach T Dilip, who is reportedly in line to join Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). While there has been no official confirmation, India’s declining catching standards have intensified scrutiny over the fielding department.

Former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel believes fielding has become the most worrying aspect of Indian cricket. Speaking on JioStar’s Googlies, he said, “The result was a bit surprising and shocking. You can’t expect to beat Ireland after playing poor cricket. Over the last two to two-and-a-half years, the most alarming aspect of Indian cricket has been fielding, across the men’s team, the women’s team and even junior cricket.”

Reflecting on the Ireland series, Parthiv pointed out that India’s dropped chances proved decisive. “Even in the Ireland series, had those two or three catches been taken in the first game, they wouldn’t have scored over 180. The same thing happened in the second game. This is definitely an area India needs to address because they’re dropping catches at crucial moments,” he added, stressing that repeated lapses are costing India matches.

T Dilip has been associated with the Indian team for nearly five years and is the only member of the previous coaching staff to have continued despite changes in the support setup. While his longevity itself is not under question, the inability to improve India’s catching standards in high-pressure situations has raised concerns. The repeated fielding mistakes have become a recurring theme across formats and tournaments.

India’s struggles were also evident during the T20 World Cup 2026, where they dropped 13 catches. Their catching efficiency stood at just 71.7%, the lowest among all Super Eight teams in the tournament. With another ICC event on the horizon, improving fielding standards is expected to become a major priority for the team management, regardless of whether changes are made to the coaching staff.
