‘Gen Alpha are being raised by more involved parents’: Tusshar Kapoor opens up about his journey as a single father and how his son thinks his ‘movies are boring’

In a candid new interview detailing the evolution of family dynamics across generations, ‘Welcome to the Jungle’ actor Tusshar Kapoor opened up about the profound responsibilities of raising a Gen Alpha child in today’s fast-paced world. Speaking about his journey as a devoted single father, the star kid emphasized that today’s parents are making a highly conscious effort to remain present and emotionally available compared to previous eras. In a recent interview with Deccan Chronicle, he says his greatest responsibility today begins after the cameras stop rolling. While he has spent more than two decades in the film industry, he believes the most meaningful role of his life is being a devoted and present father. The actor shared that success is no longer limited to achievements in cinema. Instead, he now measures it by watching his son grow into a confident and independent individual. According to Tusshar, parents should encourage children to pursue their own interests while providing guidance. Speaking about his son, the actor revealed that football occupies a special place in his life. “He’s a football fanatic. He plays almost every day, mostly as a defender. But despite that, he scores a lot of goals. Football is his biggest passion,” Tusshar said.Tusshar said he is happy that his son naturally enjoys outdoor activities and prefers spending time on the field. He believes sports have become an important part of his child’s daily routine and overall development. The actor explained that whether the training takes place indoors or outdoors, his son enjoys staying active and participating in different sporting activities. “He loves being outdoors. Whether it’s football practice or other sports, he’s happiest on the field. Of course, sometimes he plays indoors when training happens inside facilities, but sports are a huge part of his life,” he shared. Tusshar added that encouraging children to remain physically active is just as important as supporting their academic growth.

Tusshar Kapoor on parenting across generations

Tusshar said parenting has changed significantly over the years. He feels today’s parents are more involved in their children’s lives than previous generations, while also acknowledging that every generation has its own strengths and challenges. “Every generation has its own strengths and weaknesses,” he said. “I feel some people from Gen Z have become emotionally detached in relationships, though certainly not everyone. Gen Alpha children are being raised by more involved parents. I believe hands on parenting is extremely important, and today’s parents are making a conscious effort to be more present in their children’s lives.”Recalling his younger days, Tusshar said children earlier had greater freedom to play outside but were rarely involved in important family decisions. “Our generation had freedom to play outside, but we didn’t have much say in our choices. Parents decided where we would go on holidays, who our friends would be and many other things,” he recalled.

Giving children the freedom to choose their own path

Tusshar believes his own experiences have shaped the way he is raising his son. He said living independently in the United States helped him gain confidence and influenced his decision to pursue acting. “Living on my own gave me confidence, and when I came back, I decided I wanted to become an actor instead of simply joining the family business,” he said. The actor added that he wants his son to discover his own interests without feeling pressured to follow in his footsteps. “He’s excellent in academics and equally good at sports. The only thing he isn’t interested in is movies,” Tusshar said with a laugh. “He has hardly watched any of my films. The last one he watched was Bhoot Bangla, mainly because it was a family film.”Even family movie time happens according to his son’s preferences. “He’d rather watch movies with his friends, popcorn in hand. He likes having his own space, which I completely respect,” he shared.

Career, life lessons and moving forward

Tusshar said he has learned to accept uncertainty and remain optimistic during difficult phases. According to the actor, patience and perseverance have helped him navigate both life and career. “I have realised we aren’t in complete control of everything. You can’t predict life. The best approach is to stay positive, remain strong and keep moving forward. Things unfold in their own time, and you have to trust the process,” he said. Sharing the advice he hopes his son will always remember, Tusshar added, “My greatest strength has always been to never give up. There’s always going to be noise around you, good or bad, but you have to learn to filter it out and take everything with a pinch of salt. Have a mind of your own, stay focused and keep moving forward.”On the work front, Tusshar Kapoor was last seen in the crime thriller ‘Maarrich’, which had its theatrical release on December 9, 2022.
