The four-team one-day competition, earlier announced by the Pakistan Cricket Board, is tentatively decided to be staged from August 11 to 18 in Multan, sources stated. The tournament, as confirmed by the team’s high performance director Aaqib Javed, would be played with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup preparations.
White-ball players to take part in the competition
Participation in the tournament is necessary for the white-ball players. This proposed schedule would put the competition to overlap with the Caribbean Premier League and the preparatory phase of Pakistan’s Test tour of England.
Players selected in the Test squad are understood to be exempted from playing the tournament. However, Pakistan players who are set to feature in the CPL, which runs from August 7 to September 20, might miss a few games.
The PCB is understood to be mulling granting NOCs to players after the competition ends.
Pakistan’s form in ODI World Cups
Four equal-strength teams curated by selectors and coaches, as stated earlier by Javed, would be formed to take part in the competition. Pakistan are currently ranked fifth in the ICC ODI rankings, which is their best among all formats.
Since 2000, they have only made it to the semi-finals of one ODI World Cup, which came in 2011. Their previous ODI World Cup appearance left miserable memories for the side as they won only four of their nine games.
