Chennai Super Kings are facing a lot of injury problems in IPL 2026. First, an Australian fast bowler couldn’t join the team because of a hamstring injury. Then, MS Dhoni got injured during training. Now, Khaleel Ahmed has also been ruled out of the tournament. Because of these injuries, CSK is struggling a lot this season.
But as per unconfirmed reports, former MI bowler Akash Madhwal has been spotted in CSK nets, and is considered a frontrunner to replace Khaleel. Akash Madhwal was with Rajasthan Royals until last year but was released before the auction. Before that, he spent two years with Mumbai Indians, where he played 13 matches and took 19 wickets.
Akash Madhwal likely to replace Khaleel Ahmed at Chennai Super Kings
As per Cricbuzz, some other bowlers also attended the trials, but their names are not known yet. A decision on this is expected soon and will be announced shortly. Also, it is very likely that if Madhwal is roped in, he could very well be part of playing XI, straightaway. Many are also expecting MS Dhoni to be match-ready by next week, but of course the decision-making powers lie with the veteran himself.
“He is still doing his rehab and we don’t want to take any chances with his fitness,” CSK sources told the Times of India.
So far, it has been a disappointing season for Chennai Super Kings. They have won only 2 out of 5 matches and are currently in 8th place. The team will be hoping to improve their performance, especially after missing the playoffs in the last couple of seasons.
