England Beat India by 27 Runs to Win ODI Series 2-1 as Ben Duckett, Sam Curran Shine- IPL

England sealed the three-match ODI series 2-1 after defeating India by 27 runs in a high-scoring thriller at Lord’s. Ben Duckett starred with a magnificent century, while Sam Curran delivered with the ball to help England defend a massive total. Despite Rohit Sharma’s brilliant hundred and valuable contributions from Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli, India fell short in their chase.

Batting first, England piled up a huge 387/3 in 50 overs. Ben Duckett led the charge with a superb 141, while Jacob Bethell narrowly missed out on a century with a fluent 91. India responded with an impressive batting effort. Rohit Sharma played one of his finest ODI knocks, scoring 138 off 110 balls with 17 fours and five sixes. He stitched together a 147-run opening partnership with captain Shubman Gill, who made 77, before adding another 113-run stand with Virat Kohli, who contributed 74. Rohit also became the first Indian batter to score an ODI century at Lord’s. “I just wanted to give the team a solid platform and take the chase deep,” Rohit said after reaching his century.

However, England fought back strongly through Sam Curran. The left-arm all-rounder used his slower deliveries effectively in the final overs and removed Ishan Kishan, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer in quick succession. Curran finished with impressive figures of 4/75 as India’s chase lost momentum at the crucial stage. “The wicket was good for batting, so mixing up the pace was the only way to create chances,” Curran said.

Earlier in the day, India’s bowling attack struggled without Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the match due to a knee injury. Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell dominated the new-ball bowlers with a 192-run opening partnership. England scored freely throughout the innings, with Duckett hitting 18 boundaries in his brilliant knock. Prasidh Krishna was India’s most successful bowler with figures of 2/69, but the rest of the attack found it difficult to contain England’s aggressive batting.

India’s inexperienced pace attack, including Arshdeep Singh, Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar, found it tough to adapt to the conditions at Lord’s. The hosts took full advantage, hitting 42 fours and six sixes in their innings. Jos Buttler’s explosive cameo in the final overs, particularly against Gurnoor Brar, ensured England finished with a daunting total. “We wanted to finish strongly because we knew every run would matter,” Buttler said.

Although India produced a spirited batting display, England held their nerve to secure a memorable 27-run victory and clinch the ODI series.
