Will Roston Chase regain fitness ahead of the opening Test against Pakistan?- IPL

Will Roston Chase regain fitness ahead of the opening Test against Pakistan?West Indies captain Roston Chase is in a race against time to recover before the first Test match against Pakistan, set to begin on July 25.

Update on Chase’s injury

Chase picked up a laceration and contusion to his right index finger while playing the second Test against Sri Lanka earlier this month. The injury saw him miss out on the ODI series versus New Zealand, which his side lost 3-2.

Head coach Darren Sammy provided an update on Chase’s progress following the fifth ODI game against New Zealand and seemed positive that the skipper would be fit in time for the opening Test match.

“I spoke to Roston [Chase] earlier today,” Sammy said.

“He came to do his workout. Still a little bit puffy. But Roston is a fighter. I know he’s not going to want to miss any Test cricket. I’m pretty sure Dr. Byam [team physio Denis Byam] has a way of keeping guys on the park, so I’m pretty sure Roston will be ready for the first Test.”

Pakistan and West Indies at the bottom

West Indies are yet to name the squad for the tour, which is just two days away. Pakistan finished their final preparation with a tour match against West Indies Select XI in Tarouba. While the game ended in a draw, the visitors did well with both the ball and the bat.

The two sides have only won one Test match each this World Test Championship, though West Indies have played more than double the red-ball games of Pakistan. Pakistan are at the bottom-most spot after losing three of their four games while West Indies occupy ninth place, with seven defeats in 10 games.
