Bittu Tabahi has brought his cleanliness mission to Delhi, and his first stop was the Yamuna.Surendra Singh Choudhary, popularly known as Bittu Tabahi, joined local volunteers for a cleanup drive along the Yamuna riverbank on September 20. After more than four hours of work, he said the team had collected 585 kg of waste from the area.Choudhary has been travelling to different places to spread awareness about keeping public spaces clean. He first gained attention for his videos showing him cleaning the polluted Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh.His work eventually caught the attention of Boyan Slat, the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, who invited him to work with the organisation.Now, Choudhary is taking the same message beyond Madhya Pradesh.
Why Bittu Tabahi came to Delhi
In a video shared on September 21, Choudhary spoke about his first cleanup drive in Delhi and said he had wanted to work on the Yamuna for some time.He said his videos eventually reached Philip Morris, which supported the Delhi initiative and helped organise the cleanup drive.“As you all know, I had undertaken a mission to travel to different states and spread awareness about cleanliness. I really wanted to come to Delhi to clean up the Yamuna River.”The drive was held as part of World Cleanup Day activities and was carried out along the Yamuna riverbank.
585 kg of waste collected
According to Choudhary, the riverbank was covered with different kinds of waste, including plastic, flower garlands and religious offerings.He said locals and volunteers joined the effort, working together to clear the area.“Today, the 20th, is World Cleanup Day, so we are conducting cleanup activities over a three-day period. I am here on the banks of the Yamuna; there is a lot of trash, along with items like idols of deities, and today we are going to clean it all up,” he said in the video.After around four and a half hours of cleaning, Choudhary said the team had removed 585 kg of waste during its first Delhi drive.In the caption accompanying his Instagram post, he wrote, “September 20th, World Cleanup Day. Four and a half hours of cleaning along the banks of the Yamuna, and together we removed 585 kg of waste.”He also thanked the people who joined the effort, saying locals had stepped in to help clean the riverbank.
Gurugram is next
The Delhi drive isn’t where Choudhary’s campaign ends.He thanked Philip Morris for supporting the initiative and announced that the next cleanup would take place in Gurugram, at Kherki Daula.“Thanks to Philip Morris for partnering with us on this journey. Next stop: Gurugram, Kherki Daula. You’re coming, right? Let us know in the comments,” he said.The post also drew supportive reactions from social media users, with several people praising Choudhary and the volunteers for taking up the cleanup effort.From the Ajnar River in Madhya Pradesh to the Yamuna in Delhi, Bittu Tabahi’s latest drive is now taking his cleanliness campaign to a much larger audience.
