August 25 marked nine years since ‘Arjun Reddy’ was released in theatres. The Telugu romantic drama marked Shalini Pandey’s entry into movies. She played Preethi in the film alongside Vijay Deverakonda. The film turned out to be a superhit.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, ‘Arjun Reddy’ follows a medical student with an intense personality. Vijay Deverakonda played the titular character.Arjun is introduced as a final-year medical student. He is intelligent and confident. But his temper often gets the better of him. His life changes after he develops feelings for Preethi, played by Shalini Pandey.Their relationship forms the emotional centre of the movie. However, a separation leaves Arjun struggling to deal with his emotions. His behaviour becomes increasingly self-destructive as he turns to alcohol and drugs.The film also became an important turning point for Vijay Deverakonda. His performance received much praises from the audiences and critics. It was remade in Hindi as ‘Kabir Singh‘, with Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani in the lead roles.
