Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir was brought in by Trent Rockets, for whom he qualifies as a domestic player, after 80 balls had been bowled.
Amir’s spell puts Rockets ahead
Sunrisers Leeds were comfortably ahead as they needed 35 off 20 balls with eight wickets in hand. But Amir’s ten-ball set turned the game on its head, taking Rockets over the line to stay at the top of the table.
Amir had given away 10 runs in his previous set. Economical as it was, defending a low 146-run total required something grittier. And that came in his second ten-ball set. Sunrisers’ Harry Brook and Mitchell Marsh were set on the crease, batting on 42 and 41 respectively and taking the game away one boundary at a time.
Amir first sent Brook packing with a wide outside off delivery that forced him to play the wrong line. Ben Duckett at cover took the catch as the Rockets sensed a way back into the game.
Rockets won by 5 runs
The wicket on the fifth ball earned Amir another delivery, and it paid dividends. His final ball kissed Marsh’s inside edge on its way to wicketkeeper Sam Billings, who made no mistake with a brilliant catch. The two quick wickets brought Rockets back into the game. Matt Henry and Lewis Gregory took care of the remaining work.
They defended 25 runs and Rockets clinched the game by five runs.
