Josh Hokit has taken another bizarre shot at Alex Pereira, accusing the former UFC light heavyweight champion of witchcraft and claiming his famous “Chama” catchphrase is connected to curses. Hokit made the comments while discussing Pereira’s push for the heavyweight title opportunity during an appearance on Beyond You Me Podcast. He previously made the same claims during The Ariel Helwani Show.Hokit said Pereira’s face paint, “Chama” slogan and indigenous background were linked to supernatural practices. He also claimed the entire world had unknowingly been chanting Pereira’s supposed curse.
Josh Hokit claims Alex Pereira’s ‘Chama’ puts curses on people
Josh Hokit’s comments came while the undefeated heavyweight was discussing his upcoming undisputed title fight with Ciryl Gane. Pereira had also been campaigning for the same opportunity, giving Hokit another reason to take aim at the Brazilian star.Instead of focusing only on the heavyweight title picture, Hokit turned his attention toward Pereira’s appearance, catchphrase and cultural background. He said, “The aura-less sorceress is what I call him. The b*tch that be doing witchcraft – and we finally caught on to it. He’s had the whole world chanting ‘Chama,’ putting curses on the whole world.”Hokit also discussed Pereira’s face paint and the meaning he associates with the fighter’s famous “Chama” phrase.“Alex Pereira. He paints his face in women’s mascara. He’s witchcraft. He wants to say Chama, and that sh**t is from, you know, the shaman. And shamans, they don’t believe in the one true God”, he added. He went even further by suggesting Pereira’s alleged practices were responsible for his recent defeat against Gane.“So it’s like everyone’s saying Chama, and it’s like it’s putting curses on everybody. You know what I’m saying? That’s why he got f**ked up by Ciryl Gane. The wrath of God came upon him”, he said.Pereira’s indigenous heritage has been part of his public identity. The Brazilian fighter has Pataxo ancestry and has participated in traditional Pataxo dances, blessings and cleansing rituals. Hokit, however, presented his own interpretation of those practices while making the witchcraft accusations. The comments are also not the first time Pereira has faced supernatural claims from another fighter. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiří Procházka previously accused Pereira of using shamanistic magic to gain an advantage in his fights. For Hokit, the focus now shifts to his own heavyweight title challenge. He is scheduled to face Gane for the undisputed heavyweight championship on November 14 at Madison Square Garden at UFC 334.Hokit enters the contest undefeated. He has already recorded two victories in 2026. He defeated Curtis Blaydes by unanimous decision in April before stopping Derrick Lewis with a second-round TKO at UFC Freedom 250 in June. The American has also promised an intense fight against Gane. Hokit has outlined his approach and predicted a difficult night for the French heavyweight.
